Patriots Point Names New Executive Director

Charleston Harbor, SC (May 27, 2008) Brigadier General Hugh Tant III, (U.S. Army Ret.) has been named Executive Director of the Patriots Point Development Authority, assuming his new duties on June 1, 2008. The PPDA Board of Directors made the announcement at its monthly meeting on May 27, 2008. PPDA is a State of South Carolina Enterprise Agency that operates Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum on Charleston Harbor and manages various lease agreements on the Patriots Point grounds.

General Tant transitioned from active duty with over thirty years of leadership and management experience in the United States Army. Among his military accomplishments General Tant was hand picked by U.S. Ambassador Paul Bremer to serve as Director of Iraqi Currency Exchange in Baghdad, Iraq from September 2003 to January 2004. General Tant was selected to lead the enormous effort to change out Iraq's currency under the most challenging and hostile circumstances.

Prior to his selection as PPDA Executive Director, General Tant served as Senior Vice President for Business Development at Southcoast Community Bank in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He has been involved in numerous community activities including Chairman of the Mount Pleasant War Memorial Committee, Chairman of the General William Moultrie High School Grand Reunion and Executive Board Member of The Salvation Army.

General Tant is a Mount Pleasant native and is a 1971 graduate of The Citadel with a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration. He received his Master of Arts, Business Management from Central Michigan University in 1980. While in military service, he graduated with honors from Command and General Staff College, U.S. Army War College and the Center for Creative Leadership in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

General Tant and his wife, Christine, reside in Mount Pleasant, SC. They are the parents of twin daughters, Anna Tant of Arlington, Virginia and Elizabeth Angerman of Frisco, Texas.
