What a night! Early estimates indicate a crowd of more than 25,000 people came to the Charleston Harbor waterfront to enjoy the 2008 Patriots Point 4th of July Blast! Everyone was treated to a special guest; a refreshing, cool breeze coming off the ocean leading to very comfortable conditions.
The first band to take the stage, Sideswiped of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina got the evening started. Later on one of the Carolina's all time favorites, The East Coast Party Band, turned in an incredible, high energy performance to get the big crowd moving.
But the highlight of the evening was the annual spectacle that led The New York Times to call the Patriots Point 4th of July Blast one of the best Fourth of July parties in the country; dazzling fireworks launched from the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown over beautiful Charleston Harbor.
Plans are already in the works for the Saturday, 2009 Patriots Point 4th of July Blast. It's hard to imagine topping this year's event but as they say, "stay tuned". We're cookin' up some surprises!
