Patriots Point Selects Bennett Hospitality as Developer of Waterfront Property
Chris Hauff Aug 18, 2014The Patriots Point Development Authority (PPDA) Board of Directors selected Bennett Hospitality as developer for approximately 50 acres of highland property owned by the PPDA. The decision is subject to the approval of a 99-year lease.
Bennett Hospitality is one of the largest locally owned development and real estate companies in Charleston, S.C. In addition, the company also offers hospitality and asset management services.
“Bennett Hospitality was the most qualified respondent to our request for proposals,” Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum Executive Director Mac Burdette said. “Our next step will be to start the negotiation process, which may take up to 30 days.”
The objective of the lease is to create a long-term stream of revenue that will ensure the restoration and maintenance of the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum’s ships and piers.
The PPDA Board will immediately begin negotiating the lease with Bennett Hospitality. Once the lease is approved by the Board, it will be presented to the South Carolina Budget and Control Board for final approval.
The estimated $300 million development project is expected to take seven to ten years to complete.

Tin Can Sailors Visit During Annual Reunion
I hate to see the parking lot be gone and the Clamagore. What about the Vietnam Memorial, will that be gone too? So it basically will be a couple of ships and a bunch of stores and apartments? I pray it won’t change that much, please.
Hi Don,
There will be no condos built on the property. Also, the money made from the lease will be pumped right back in to the maintenance of the USS YORKTOWN and USS LAFFEY. The upkeep of those two ships is very expensive and necessary to ensure that our museum will be around for generations to come.
As far as the Vietnam Memorial, we are currently spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to improve it. When opened on Veterans Day of this year, it will contain several new and immersive exhibits including a River Patrol Boat that will be floating in a very large lagoon that the Town of Mt. Pleasant recently built.
Thank you for your concern, and please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any further questions. We really appreciate our visitors, and will do whatever it takes to make sure that their experience here is very special.
