Context
In 1968 the USS Yorktown served as the recovery vessel for NASA's Apollo 8 Mission. The Apollo 8 crew would be the first to leave low earth orbit and the first crew to orbit the moon. Several news crews, including one from ABC, were aboard the USS Yorktown to cover the Apollo 8 capsule recovery.
