Providing scholarships for students of all socioeconomic backgrounds in South Carolina to attend Patriots Point educational programs is one of the primary missions of the USS Yorktown Foundation.
From 2016 to the present, the Foundation has funded over 6000 scholarships for these students from across the state of South Carolina. Although we serve any student group requiring a scholarship, we focus on JROTC students from disadvantaged communities.
The JROTC program (as well as other military-based student programs) is designed to “teach students the value of citizenship, leadership, military service, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline.”
Through our scholarship program, the USS Yorktown Foundation makes sure that children from all backgrounds have equal access to these transformative educational programs at Patriots Point.
- Every year, we commit over $25,000 to scholarships
- Over 650 students served per year
- 50% or more of each group that participates are underserved/under-resourced/at-risk
