A storekeeper (Sk1/c) aboard the USS Franklin (CV-13), Charles Mason "Ox" Russell II was on the USS Franklin (CV-13) during the March 19th, 1945, attack. An avid boxer aboard the ship, Russell and his gloves survived and stayed with the ship through its return to the Brooklyn Navy Shipyard for repairs in April 1945.
