Mark II US Navy Sextant
Description
Black and gold half-moon-shaped instrument with glass and mirrored pieces. World War II era sextant consists of an arc of a circle with degree markings, mirrors, and a hinged radial arm at the center of the circle. The sextant comes in its original brown wooden box (2023.35.2) with repair instruments and documentation.

Context
Sextants were used aboard US Navy ships to navigate in open waters, and are still kept aboard modern ships as a backup method of navigation.
