Context
The USS Barton (DD-722) was an Allen M. Sumner class destroyer that served alongside the USS Laffey (DD-724) at the shelling of Cherbourg and the invasion of Okinawa. The USS Barton was also the second ship to bear the name Barton, the previous USS Barton (DD-599) being sunk at the first battle of Guadalcanal.
