Robert Daugherty enlisted in the Navy on August 7, 1942 and served on the USS Pleiades (AK-46) and the USS Schnek (DD-159) before being transferred to the USS Laffey (DD-724). "Dusty" Daugherty served as a Radarman 3/c on the USS Laffey as a plankowner and saw service at D-Day and the Battle of Okinawa.
