Context

The USS Laffey (DD-724) was commissioned and decommissioned twice. The first decommissioning came after the end of World War II and the conclusion of Operation Crossroads. The Laffey then went into "mothball" with the Pacific Reserve Fleet. The Laffey would be recommissioned in 1951 to enter service for the Korean War.
