Join Patriots Point in Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of D-Day
The Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is commemorating the special 70th anniversary of D-Day by hosting a symposium that will feature guest speakers who served on board the USS LAFFEY during the invasion of Normandy.
The admission-free symposium will start at 7 p.m. on June 6th, inside the USS YORKTOWN’s Smokey Stover Theater. Parking for the event will cost $5.
Guest speakers who were on board the USS LAFFEY during the attack will share their memories of the invasion. The USS LAFFEY, docked at Patriots Point, is one of only two D-Day warships still in existence. There were more than 5,000 floating off the shore of German-occupied France the day of the attack.
“It’s an honor to have the USS LAFFEY at Patriot’s Point, and a great opportunity for people to come on board and meet veterans who served in one of the most important battles of U.S. history,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette. “The D-Day symposium will be very inspirational and will serve as a reminder of the sacrifice these men made 70 years ago.”
The symposium will feature live entertainment and a living history production on the D-Day invasion and the breakout from Omaha Beach.
