On nationally-observed Vietnam Veterans Day, March 29, Patriots Point will honor and recognize the more than three million Americans who fought in the war with free museum admission and an official Department of Defense Vietnam Veteran lapel pin.

On this day, admission to our museum will be FREE for all Vietnam veterans and their immediate family members. There will be a brief memorial ceremony at 1:30 p.m. near the entrance of the Vietnam Experience exhibit to remember the lives of the 896 South Carolinians who died in the Vietnam War. Medal of Honor Recipient Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston will be the guest speaker.

After the ceremony, a ribbon cutting will officially open the new theater inside the quonset hut of the Vietnam Experience exhibit featuring video of first-hand accounts of the war broadcast through wrap-around projection technology.

Also on this day, the museum will host representatives from the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center who will be available to answer questions asked by veterans and/or their family members. Their table will be set up inside the Vietnam Experience exhibit.

March 29, 2017 will mark 44 years since United States troops left Vietnam (March 29, 1973). The war, which lasted longer than a decade, resulted in the death of more than 58,000 U.S. troops. Of those, 896 were from South Carolina. A memorial inside the Patriots Point Vietnam Experience Exhibit recognizes the ultimate sacrifice of each one of those men and women.

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is a registered partner of the Department of Defense’s Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration.
