Vietnam Veterans Day

Dates

On March 29, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will honor the men and women who served in the Vietnam War. This day marks the anniversary of the 1973 withdrawal of U.S. combat troops, recognizing the service of over three million Americans and the 58,000 who made the ultimate sacrifice.

To show appreciation, all Vietnam veterans and their immediate families will receive free admission. Each veteran in attendance will also receive an official Department of Defense Vietnam War Veteran lapel pin. The Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony and activities are included with general admission for all other visitors.

At 11 a.m., a memorial ceremony inside the Vietnam Experience Exhibit will feature special remarks and moments of recognition, honoring the service and sacrifice of Vietnam veterans. Patriots Point welcomes veterans, families, and community members to join in this meaningful tribute.

As part of our National Vietnam Veterans Day commemoration, Patriots Point is partnering with the University of South Carolina Libraries to present archival films offering a firsthand look at the Vietnam War through Marine combat footage, Department of Defense reports, and network news broadcasts. A display of photographs, letters, and artifacts from the South Caroliniana Library will also highlight the experiences of South Carolinians who served.

The film screening begins at 1 p.m. in the Smokey Stover Theater aboard the USS Yorktown, with additional screenings available throughout the day until closing. (Learn more about the U.S. Marine Corps Film Repository project here.)
