246 Army Band To Perform at Patriots Point

Patriots Point is excited to announce that as part of the SC Army National Guard Summer Concert Series, the 246 Army Band will perform on board the U.S.S. Yorktown this week.

The concert begins at 2pm Friday, July 19th on the Yorktown and will end about 3:30pm.  Regular parking and admission to Patriots Point still apply, but there is no extra cost for the concert.

“Listening to patriotic songs performed by those who served our country is an honor,” Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette said.  “Add in the location of the USS Yorktown and there’s no doubt the American pride will be alive and well at their performance Friday.”

About the band

The Soldiers of the 246 Army Band have proudly served their State and Nation since their inception in 1939 as a part of the 178th Field Artillery. Their historic and distinguished lineage dates back to performances in numerous campaigns since and including World War II. The 246th has been by name requested to perform at such distinguished venues as Senator Strom Thurmond’s funeral and South Carolina Gubernatorial Inaugurations. The 246th has traveled to the Dominican Republic, Hawaii, Guam, Maryland, Mississippi, Georgia and Key West in recent years for concerts. In addition to these venues, the 246th has a regular concert schedule around the great state of South Carolina to include military ceremonial performances, patriotic holidays and community events.
