Today marked a "Celebration In Education" at Patriots Point. Since 2002, Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum’s History & Science program has provided cross-curricular educational activities to more than 125,000 students of all ages. The primary goal of the program is to stimulate student achievement with activities that connect History with Science, Math and Language Arts; at the same time preparing students for state standardized tests. The multi-station, vibrant, living history and environmental activities develop critical thinking, listening and memory skills that connect History, Science, Math and Language Arts subjects.

Thanks to the generous support of the USS Yorktown Association and others from the TriCounty area, thousands of these students have experienced these innovative programs. It is planned that the program will expand under the STEM education guideline as part of the national initiative to teach problem solving through the integration of several curricula. History is the perfect catalyst to build STEM programs that help students gain the skills needed for the 21st century.
Today William B. Reeves Elementary School was recognized as a Carolina First Palmetto’s Finest School onboard Yorktown and this Dorchester 2 District School is one of only four schools in South Carolina to be honored with the Palmetto Achievement Award.

The combination of real life nature on Charleston Harbor adds incredible value to the science portions of Patriots Point Education Programs and of course, no history lesson in a classroom can complete with the actual aircraft carrier, aircraft and veteran speakers involved in the history portion.
