Thanks to the hard work of staff, guests now have access to spaces that were not previously available, including the Admiral’s Quarters, providing perspective on past life aboard a Navy ship and the new South Pier area, which provides a breezy waterside setting, with room for dining and dancing under Carolina blue skies or the stars.

Earlier this year, Gourmet Bay Caterers paid a visit to Patriots Point and toured the USS Yorktown and USS Laffey.  Below is some information regarding their impressions of “The Fighting Lady” and “The Ship That Would Not Die” as an event venue. USS Yorktown and USS Laffey

We had an awesome visit with Bobby from the USS Yorktown this past week. The Yorktown is the perfect place to host an event. Nicole and I got to take a tour through all the neat event spaces aboard the ship and Bobby even showed us some up and coming spaces that the public has not been able to view yet. Thanks Bobby!   The ship has indoor event spaces that are surrounded by antique aircrafts, old photos, memorials and more, but the outdoor spaces are what we’re excited about! At the back of the ship you can have an event like a wedding reception or a reunion and you get the outside feel, but you have an overhang above you to shield you from the weather. The view is great with the water and the city scape and the USS Laffey. The Laffey just got a facelift and is perfect for smaller events. Bobby mentioned they are adding a cover over much of the Laffey to give the space some much needed shade.   The best space on the Yorktown has to be the top deck. The view cannot be beat. When you’re standing up on the top deck of the Yorktown you can see so much of the water and harbor, the church steeples of Charleston, the spectacular Ravenel Bridge, and the old aircrafts. Every event space has been updated to accommodate outside caterers, wheelchairs, rental vendors and also has been outfitted with some lighting and outlets throughout all event spaces. They also redid a deck area past the Laffey that would be perfect for a Lowcounty Boil or cocktail party on the water. We can just imagine a wedding or charity event with the lighted bars and a band set up overlooking the water. I’m sure the amazing event planners here in Charleston can transform these spaces into something spectacular.   I was pleased to hear all of the exciting upcoming events that are being hosted at Patriot’s Point like the Carrier Classic, PGA events, boat races and more. Also, there is an outdoor event space that is outfitted with power that can hold thousands of guests. The prices to rent the event spaces are very economical and you can ask to have a staff member be on hand for your guests to take guided tours. Gourmet Bay Catering can’t wait to book an event on the top deck with that amazing view!
