The South Carolina State Guard Foundation and The Citadel are hosting the 2010 Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s Convention in Charleston, South Carolina. This will be a celebration honoring the 87 living recipients of our nation’s highest award for bravery in combat — The Medal of Honor.

I will be posting Medal of Honor stories on this blog in the days and weeks leading up to the convention. Stand bye for my first one on an amazing story by Colonel Charles P. Murray, USA (Retired).

Additionally, the 2010 Medal of Honor Convention Host Committee is sponsoring an essay contest (essay submissions are now closed) for middle and high school students in South Carolina.  As part of the convention ceremonies, the two essay contest winners attend a special reception and each will receive a check for $3,000.00.  Additionally, the winners attend the Patriot’s Dinner on Saturday, October 2, 2010.  Students will have the opportunity to meet Medal of Honor recipients and have their photos taken. Contest winners will be announced on 28 September.

It will be a great week to commemorate America's heroes! Hope you can join us...
