– Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum invites the public to “Open Cockpit Sunday” on Sunday, October 13, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. for.  With great public interest and success, “Open Cockpit Sunday” has been hosted by Patriots Point since the program began in 2011; inviting guests to visit exhibits usually not open as part of the regular tours of the USS YORKTOWN.

For one Sunday each month, visitors have the opportunity to explore the cockpits of some of the museum’s most popular aircrafts, including the SBD Dauntless, F-9 Cougar, H-1 Huey, S-3 Viking, H-3 Sea King, F-18 Hornet and the A-6 Intruder.

The public is welcome to attend these exclusive exhibits during any of the remaining 2013 dates. The dates of “Open Cockpit Sunday” are October 13, November 10, and December 8. Please check with Patriots Point’s Facebook and Twitter pages for the latest updates regarding the availability.

“Open Cockpit Sunday has been successful in aiding our efforts to educate the public about our rich military history,” said Executive Director Mac Burdette.  “It’s part of our mission; but it’s also a great opportunity for our visitors – children and adults alike – to experience Patriots Point in a whole new way and to walk in the steps of heroes.”

Patriots Point staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and to share the unique stories of these historic aircraft.  Normal museum admission rates apply.
