Patriots Point Earns Top Honors from TripAdvisor

Date

In recognition of its exceptional traveler ratings over the past year, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum has been awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence – with an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5.  As of June 18, Patriots Point received an exceptional 208 'excellent' ratings and 73 'very good' ratings out of a total 301 received.

“We are honored to be recognized by such a prestigious travel website,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette, noting that the recognition is made all the more significant because it was voted on by visitors to the museum.  “Our staff is hard at work every day, searching for new and exciting ways to share our nation’s naval history with visitors.  We are proud of all that we’ve accomplished and we’re continually building on this success.  I hope visitors and Lowcountry residents will visit Patriots Point and the USS YORKTOWN and experience history in a whole new way.”

A visitor to Patriots Point in May called the museum “a must for military enthusiasts” and said it was “a good time for a family trip.”  In a review online, this visitor stated: “The dominant attraction is the Yorktown, an [Essex] class aircraft carrier converted into a museum ship. One of the best museums of its kind, it allows tours of the interior of the ship, has dozens of period aircraft, the Apollo 8 capsule, and the official Medal of Honor museum. There's also a theater showing historical pieces including 'The Fighting Lady', a WWII documentary shot onboard, and a nice little snack area directly underneath a suspended B-25 bomber.

“There's also several other ships nearby including a submarine and the Laffey, a WWII destroyer, as well as monuments to the cold war submariners and a recreation of a Vietnam helicopter base. The gift shop is large and well fitted, and tours of Fort Sumter leave every two hours from a nearby pier. Very nice location. Compares well with any military museum I've seen, including the Air and Space in DC.”
