Patriots Point to Host 3rd Annual Teacher Recertification Professional Development Program

Date

As part of its new Blended Learning Initiative, the Patriots Point Institute of History, Science and Technology (PPIHST) is excited to host the third annual Teacher’s Recertification Professional Development Program on board the USS Yorktown.  Registration is available online now.  The two-day program is designed to inform, engage and inspire educators through a series of workshops.  Teachers who attend will earn 20 recertification credits.

  • The recertification program will include:
    • “Oscar, I AM!” and “Harry, I WAS?!” 4th edition history & science text books.  (Extra sets are available at an educator/administrator discount.)
    • Educational catalogue of downloadable videos and quarterly live streaming sessions which correlate with the textbook series and pacing guides for the 5th grade state history and science standards.
    • Demonstrations of the new “Plug & Play”, an interactive story based technology being developed by PPIHST.
    • Each workshop will inspire new, “out of the box” ideas through the viewing of primary documents kept in the YORKTOWN’s archives, access to areas of the ship that are not normally available, and exposure to “creature features”, the living residents in our Science Center.
“Teachers play a critical role in a child’s life,” Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette stated. “We are thrilled to have teachers from all over our state joining us as we aim to provide tomorrow’s leaders with a foundation in our nation’s proud military history, along with science, technology, literacy, math and more.”

During the two-day teacher recertification process, Patriots Point will also host daily luncheons with guest speakers including SC Rep. Jenny Horne, Education Oversight Committee Executive Director Melanie Barton, and Former SC Board of Education member Patsy Pye.

Registration is available now.  Click here to secure your spot.  Cost is $50 and includes meals, materials and even a night on board our ship! The deadline for registration is July 25, 2014.
