To honor their service to our country, all veterans will be admitted free of charge to Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum on Veterans Day (November 11). Free admission is made possible by a gift from the SunTrust Foundation.
Earlier this year, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum was designated as an official Regional Site for the observance of Veterans Day 2015 by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Veterans Day National Committee. Offering free admission on these days is part of the museum’s commitment to honor veterans for this national observance. Many aircraft cockpits will also be opened to the public as part of the season's Open Cockpit series. Guests can sit inside the aircraft during this special event. More details can be found on the Facebook event page.
“Every day at our museum we work to honor the fine men and women of our nation’s military by preserving their history and educating all generations,” said Executive Director Mac Burdette. “Veterans Day provides a time when we can all give thanks to those who have served our country so bravely, and we would be honored for veterans to spend the day with us. Thanks to our partnership with the SunTrust Foundation, we are so pleased that we can offer free admission to all veterans on Veterans Day and Veterans Day weekend.”
In addition to the normal tours and exhibits at the museum, the museum will display a recently refurbished M35A2, a 2 ½ ton cargo truck frequently used by our nation’s military and often known as a “deuce and a half.” General Dynamics Land Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics Combat Systems group located locally in Ladson, SC is loaning a Buffalo mine clearance vehicle to be on display on Veterans Day as well.
Admission will be free for veterans only. Normal parking rates still apply.
