Veterans will be offered free admission to Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum on Veterans Day, November 11 and Sunday, November 12 in honor of their service. Free admission is made possible by the SunTrust Foundation and Navy Federal Credit Union.
The Department of Veterans Affairs and the Veterans Day National Committee has named Patriots Point an official Regional Site for the observance of Veterans Day 2017.
In addition to offering free admission to veterans on November 11 and 12, the museum is also hosting a one-night theatrical production titled, “BEHIND THE LINES: War Letters by American Heroes,” on November 9. A limited number of tickets are on sale for $20; click here to purchase. The program is based on New York Times bestselling author Andrew Carroll’s books, including Letters of a Nation, Behind the Lines, and War Letters. It is produced and directed by Broadway veterans and Charleston’s own Brad and Jennifer Moranz.
“We look forward to Veterans Day every year,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette. “It’s an honor and a privilege to celebrate our country’s heroes. This year, we have planned not one, but several events around the holiday.”
On Monday, November 13 more than 150 people will board the USS Yorktown for a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalization ceremony.
“This ceremony will be a great ending to our Veterans Day offerings,” said Burdette. “What a way to really honor the sacrifice of our veterans – those who earn citizenship have come to the United States because of the freedoms our military men and women fight so hard to protect.”
Free admission November 11-12 will apply to veterans only. The museum will operate under normal business hours from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The ticket window closes at 5 p.m. Parking is $5.
