This historic day of learning and fun features a 90-minute program that includes standards-based history and science instruction by certified staff. The program features standards-based instruction that combines the rich history of Charleston; legacies of service found aboard the ships and in the Medal of Honor Museum; and the wonders of the Charleston Harbor’s estuarine environment

Following the program, students and chaperones have the opportunity to tour the remainder of the museum, including the Medal of Honor Museum, Vietnam Support Base Camp, USS Laffey destroyer and USS Clamagore submarine.  For an additional $1 per student, participants may add a scavenger hunt to their visit.  Scavenger hunts are a proven fun and adventurous activity that allow students to see even more of the ship’s sites while learning interesting facts and details about the Yorktown’s service.

“The Institute of History, Science and Technology has captured the imaginations of more than 100,000 students and educators and we’re excited to take this next step,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette. “In the past, the program had been designed for classroom-sized groups, thereby making it difficult for homeschool educators – with considerably smaller class sizes – to participate. Our Homeschool Day solves this challenge and provides a great opportunity to share our outstanding educational programming with a new audience.”
