Patriots Point’s Summer Educational Camps, offered in partnership with the Town of Mount Pleasant, kicked off today aboard the USS YORKTOWN. The week-long camp provides structured curriculum focused on living history and marine science while providing campers with an ‘all access pass’ to explore the USS YORKTOWN – Charleston’s largest floating classroom.
This week’s summer camp will take place from June 11-15. Future camps are scheduled for July 23-27 and August 6-10.
Each day will offer a different experience focused on different cross-curricular activities. Throughout the week, campers will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on marine science and living history programs in addition to classes in aviation, astronomy and oceanography. A sample itinerary for a participant is featured on page 2.
“We are pleased to partner with the Town of Mount Pleasant to offer summer camp programs for the first time at Patriots Point,” said Executive Director Mac Burdette. “Whether they’re learning about our nation’s heroes in the Medal of Honor Museum, conducting a hands-on experiment in our state-of-the-art classroom or exploring the YORKTOWN’s surrounding estuarine environments, students will be excited to learn from the moment they arrive.”
Registration is available on the Town of Mount Pleasant’s website, www.tompsc.com (scroll to Youth Camps) and the cost for the summer camp is $150 for Mount Pleasant residents and $164 for non-residents. Campers will need to bring a lunch each day.
