USS Yorktown Association Announces 3rd Annual Veteran’s Day 5k Sat. Nov. 9th

Mt. Pleasant, SC – November 1, 2013 – USS Yorktown – “Come on out all runners and walkers for the most patriotic run in Charleston, the 3rd Annual Run and Walk for the Yorktown, Saturday November 9th at the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point.”  Race Director Paul MacDonald would like to extend a personal invitation to come to Patriots Point for the 5k run and walk starting at 8 am just behind the parking lot at the USS Yorktown.  Runners and walkers can register on the race website www.runfortheyorktown.com or sign up in person the morning of the race up until 7:45 am, Sat. Nov. 12th at Patriot’s Point.  All proceeds will benefit education programs onboard the Yorktown.

A new race highlight for this year will feature a pre-race flyover by a squadron CJ-6 aircraft from the Red Star Pilots Association.  The pre-race national anthem will once again be sung by local recording artist and Air Force Capt. Lyndsey Goodman Moynihan, who previously appeared on American Idol.  The race will again kick off with the most unique starting gun a local race has ever had, an Army Howitzer!  Race director MacDonald has once again promised very unique winners trophies for the overall male and female and masters group winners, along with age group medals based on five year age groups.  All participants will receive a race T-shirt and all military participants will receive small token of appreciation in honor of their service.

The race begins behind the Yorktown parking lot, goes out the back entrance, turns down Patriots Point Blvd. continuing to Harry Hallman Blvd., down into Waterfront Park to the turnaround, then returns on the same route, with the finish line on the pier running toward the Yorktown. The race will conclude with a post-race party on the ship with local band Gracious Day, followed by the awards ceremony.  MacDonald would like to thank our major race sponsor, Chick-fil-A, as well as additional sponsors On the Run, Publix, First Citizens Bank, Quality Inn & Suites, Royall Ace Hardware, Awendaw Green, 96.9 The Wolf, Liquid Highway Carwash, and The MacDonald Tax & Financial Group, Inc.
