Scrappy's Origins

Scrappy was a small dog that sailors snuck aboard the Yorktown at Pearl Harbor in 1943. The secret came out when Scrappy, dressed in a life jacket barking on the flight deck, was spotted by Captain Jocko Clark (Yorktown's commanding officer).

Jocko's salty response was, "There is a __ __ dog barking on the deck! What in the __ is going on here?"

"Captain," came the quick reply, "we call him Jock."

"Well, that's all right. He can stay."
