The 2012 Walmart Carrier Classic will feature both an NCAA men’s and women’s game. The men’s game will showcase 2012 NCAA Final Four participant Ohio State and NCAA Sweet 16 participant Marquette. In the women’s game, Notre Dame, the 2012 NCAA championship runner up, will take on Ohio State, which finished No. 16 in the AP Top 25. Both the men’s and women’s games will be telecast on NBC Sports Network. The men’s game will tip-off live at 7:00 p.m. ET and the women’s game will air live at 4 p.m. ET.
“The 2012 Walmart Carrier Classic will shine a spotlight on Patriots Point and the USS Yorktown from a national and international perspective and we’re proud to be a part of such an exciting event,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette. “Thanks to the support of the USS Yorktown Association, we will be able to provide scholarships that will allow students to participate in standards-based educational programs offered by the Patriots Point Institute of History, Science and Technology.”
The Patriots Point Scholarship Program depends on support from the community and organizations such as the USS Yorktown Association. Qualifying schools and programs are eligible to apply for funding; and every $10 donation means that a student is able to participate in the Patriots Point Institute of History, Science and Technology’s education programs. During the past school year, Patriots Point welcomed more than 14,000 students to participate in educational programs and awarded scholarships to more than 5,000 students.
