USS YORKTOWN Foundation Launches New Text-to-Give Donation Initiative

Date

The Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum’s fundraising partner, the USS YORKTOWN Foundation, is making it easier for potential donors to give tax-deductible gifts by offering a new text-to-give service.

Instead of giving cash or checks,  those wishing to support educational programs and the development of the museum’s master plan, can text the word “HEROES” to 843.606.5995.  After sending the text, donors will receive instructions on how to sign up and proceed with the donation through their phones.  The service can be used for gifts as small as a dollar.

“This new tool will provide significant help in our fundraising efforts,” said USS YORKTOWN Foundation’s Executive Director Liza Turcotte.  “These days, people are less likely to carry cash or checks, but nearly everyone has a cell phone.  Text-to-give allows donors to make a donation of any size, at any time and place that is convenient for them, not just while visiting the museum.”

“The support generated through the USS YORKTOWN Foundation is very important to helping us carry out our mission to honor and educate,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette.  “The funding we receive through this new initiative will provide scholarships to thousands of kids across the state so that they can experience an educational program aboard the USS YORKTOWN.  It will also be used to support future symposiums and the development of exhibits.”

Since the USS YORKTOWN Foundation was established in 2013, nearly a million dollars has been raised in support of the museum.
