This fall, the USS Yorktown Foundation has hired Beverly Hardin as the new Executive Director and Chief Philanthropy Officer. With more than 25 years of nonprofit leadership experience, Beverly brings a wealth of expertise in fundraising, strategic planning, organizational management, and board development.
Most recently, Beverly served as CEO of Landmarks for Families, where she led a team of 53, increased annual revenue by $1.4 million, and expanded programming to include family education and reunification services. Her career highlights include leading capital campaigns, securing multi-million-dollar grants, and developing sustainable, mission-driven programs.
We recently sat down with Beverly to learn more about her background, what drew her to the Foundation, and what she’s most excited about as she begins this new chapter.
A Lifelong Passion for Service and History
Beverly grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, in a family deeply rooted in public service. Her mother was an orthopedic nurse, her father served in the National Guard, and her extended family includes veterans of both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps.
A history enthusiast from an early age, Beverly earned her bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Brenau Women’s College in Gainesville, GA, and her master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega.
Throughout her career, she has worked across nearly every area of the nonprofit sector supporting causes from historic preservation and education to juvenile justice and family well-being.
Why the USS Yorktown Foundation?
“This opportunity feels like a full-circle moment,” Beverly shared. “It allows me to apply everything I’ve learned in service of a mission that reflects my passion for history, patriotism, education, and service.”
She added that the welcoming community at Patriots Point and the inspiring setting aboard the USS Yorktown make this role especially meaningful. “It’s truly a dream job,” she said. “With the best people and the best cause, this is work worth doing.”
Leading the Next Chapter
In her new role, Beverly will oversee the Foundation’s daily operations and lead efforts to raise funds that support student scholarships, educational programming, exhibit enhancement, and preservation efforts at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. A major focus of her leadership will be spearheading the multi-million-dollar campaign to bring the Museum Master Plan to life.
She will work closely with the Foundation’s Board, Patriots Point leadership, and her team to advance the Foundation’s mission and ensure a strong, sustainable future.
Life Beyond the Deck
Beverly and her husband, Bruce, live in Park West with their dog, Brady (named after Tom Brady, of course). Bruce, a retired football coach with more than 50 years of experience, including time at The Citadel and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, shares Beverly’s passion for leadership and learning.
In fact, the couple recently completed their doctorates in Educational Leadership at Charleston Southern University and will graduate together this December.
Family is central to Beverly’s life. Her son is a firefighter, and Bruce’s twin sons and five granddaughters keep them busy and joyful.
A Message to the Community
“It’s an honor to be part of this extraordinary organization,” Beverly said. “I’m inspired by the dedicated team and community that keep the USS Yorktown’s legacy alive every day. I look forward to meeting more of our members, donors, and visitors as we continue building on this legacy together.”
