USS Yorktown to Host International Rescue and Emergency Care Technical Rescue Competition

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will host 49 first responders from South Carolina, California, Texas and Louisiana for the International Rescue and Emergency Care’s (IRECA) Technical Rescue competition.  The competition is open to the public and will take place from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. on June 21 and 22 aboard the USS YORKTOWN. 

Seven teams will compete in a series of six 45-minute problems over two days, challenging teams’ technical rope rescue and emergency medical skills. A special admission rate of $10 per day will be available for members of the public who wish to view the competition.

“We’re pleased to host this competition aboard the USS YORKTOWN and confident that ‘The Fighting Lady’ will present the teams of first responders with unique and exciting sets of challenges,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette. “These individuals work hard to keep our communities safe each and every day, and we are grateful for the opportunity to show our support for their outstanding work.”

The International Rescue and Emergency Care Association (IRECA) is the oldest international organization of its kind; representing men and women in the United States and Canada. IRECA was founded in 1948 and is entirely financed by membership dues, grants, endowments and revenues generated by association-sponsored events. The mission of IRECA is to provide educational programs to share and evaluate recognized knowledge, standards and abilities for emergency responders worldwide.
