Yesterday we celebrated the 67th birthday of the USS Yorktown's commissioning at Norfolk, Virginia, 15 April 1943. Present for our ceremony were plank owner (and original crewmember) Rev. Harold Syfrett, the first air wing commanding officer's son and former Executive Director at Patriots Point retired Rear Admiral Jim Flatley  and current active United States Navy Rear Admiral Bill Goodwin.

The West Ashley NJROTC did a great job as our color guard for the program. RADM Bill Goodwin's remarks on Yorktown''s amazing history was well received by the audience and he painted an important image of our Navy vessels as being living beings with our sailors and officers serving as the lifeblood of these amazing ships.

After the completion of the ceremony, everyone gathered for cake and punch, while the festivities of the day were punctuated by the roar of the Blue Angels as they practiced overhead; Navy Week had come to a glorious close...but we still had the Blue Angels air show to look forward on the weekend...
