One of the spookiest stories is the last voyage of the Mary Celeste, she was found drifting in the Atlantic in December 1872 with none of her ten crew members onboard. All the cargo is intact and enough food for six months.
But of course, the real ghost ships in life are those that sail out to sea and never return...the final place for sunken or missing ships is "Davy Jone's Locker" as sailors say...Davy is a possible corruption of the West Indian name for devil, "Duppy," and some say he was a pirate...The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald on 10 November 1975 always comes to mind at this time of year for men going to sea and never coming home...
