Our March volunteer profile is on our "Head Volunteer" Arnie Stein. Arnie was born in Hartford, Connecticut. He graduated from high school in 1957 and joined the United States Army in 1958.
After boot camp at Fort Dix, New Jersey, Arnie was launched on a career that would cover 35 years. He worked as a combat engineer, construction engineer, light weapons/infantry, heavy weapons, signal corps, intelligence, logistics...wow, Arnie was a jack of many trades. Eventually promotion (see Army ranks below) would push Arnie up into the management ranks as First Sergeant at Division Headquarters and then as Command Sergeant Major at the battalion level.

After retirement from the Army in 1993, Arnie entered the civilian work force working with computers and moved to Mount Pleasant, SC, in 1996. In 1998 he was recruited by our late Volunteer Coordinator Don Ziglar. Arnie started off with the new Sailor Orientation Program in which fresh Navy recruits from the Charleston Nuclear Power School come over to the Yorktown at Patriots Point to learn ship boarding etiquette. He quickly became one of our lead volunteers and since Don Ziglar's passing has become our unofficial "head volunteer."
