The 15th annual Military Order of the World Wars’ (MOWW) Youth Leadership Conference (YLC) is officially underway on the USS YORKTOWN.
The 75 participants are among the brightest in their class and are all rising juniors or seniors in the Southeast. For the next four days some of the most highly acclaimed military and civilian leaders in the region will teach the group about the justice system, the American Flag, the Constitution and the United States military.
include: Medal of Honor recipient Maj. Gen. James Livingston, USMC (RET); Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon; Ninth Circuit Court Solicitor Scarlett Wilson; Navy Cross and Silver Star recipient Col. Myron Harrington, USMC (Ret); and The Citadel’s visiting Professor of Leadership & Ethics Col Douglas H. Fehrmann, USAF (Ret).During the YLC, students will be required to write essays on the current turmoil in Iraq. The winner of the contest will be given $100; second and third place will be each given $50.
The students will spend each night in the former officers’ quarters of the USS YORKTOWN. On the last night (Friday) there will be a formal dance.
