Context
First introduced in 1957, the F-8 Crusader was created at the US Navy's request for a new fighter plane. The Crusader served throughout the Vietnam War but was largely limited to daytime operations.
The Crusader arrived at Patriots Point in 1975 and is on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida.
