We offer both structured and enriched self-guided opportunities to 3rd-12th grade for visiting Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum.

Education Programs

  • Enriched Self-Guided for Grades 3-12: This self-guided opportunity will be limited to the first 50 teachers to register. Students and teachers will receive a pre-arrival presentation and standards-based booklets upon arrival for use during or after their excursion which includes access to all of the museum’s ships and land-based exhibits.
     
  • Structured 5th Grade Programming: This is a structured, 2 hour, standards-based program. This fast-paced guided excursion will lead students through 6 stations aboard the USS Yorktown.
     
  • Flight Academy: Flight Academy is a 2 hour structured program for grades 8-12 in our state-of-the-art simulators with curriculum that supports standards in math, social studies, and science.

Programming through the Education Department is free to South Carolina school groups 3rd-12th grade thanks to funding from the Education Improvement Act. Overnight stays through Operation Overnight can be supported through scholarships that must be applied for and approved by the USS Yorktown Foundation.

Program duration varies depending on the program selected. Onsite structured programs lasts 2 hours, however don’t forget to account for unloading, loading, meeting chaperones and lunch. In total, allot a minimum of 3 hours if your students are eating lunch on property.

There is outdoor seating available in our Vietnam Experience for school groups participating in structured programs. Lunch reservations must be made with Tamara Parker. 

Each school is allotted 1 chaperone for every 10 students for free. Any chaperones over this number are $17 per person. Chaperones must be paid for in advance 2 weeks prior to the field trip date. No cash. Credit cards accepted. Reach out to Tamara Parker 843-881-5936 to make a payment. Note: for structured programs (not self-guided) no more than 2 chaperones per every 10 students is permitted.
