Know-Before-You-Go FAQs

Tamara Parker will register you for programs and resources. Expect to fill out an online registration form if you have not already. This is true for all enriched self-guided field experiences, structured field experiences (5th grade and Flight Academy), and Activity Kits.

Programming through the Education Department is free to South Carolina school groups 3rd-12th grade thanks to funding from the Education Improvement Act. Overnight stays through Operation Overnight can be supported through scholarships that must be applied for and approved by the USS Yorktown Foundation.

Program duration varies depending on the program selected. The 5th grade onsite structured program lasts 2 hours, however don’t forget to account for unloading, loading, meeting chaperones and lunch. In total, allot a minimum of 3 hours if your students are eating lunch on property.

Group Leaders and Teachers: Please make sure your bus driver is aware of our current drop-off, pick-up and parking scheme. Due to ongoing construction we would like to ensure safety which includes following our map and signage. Chaperones and personal vehicles are not to follow buses into bus drop-off and parking.

Once on Patriots Point Rd, continue towards Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum. Personal vehicles and chaperones should turn off into the main entrance to Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum’s surface lot. Parking is $5.00 per vehicle. At this time buses should by-pass the main entrance and continue straight towards the Harbor Resort and Marina. At the round-a-bout continue straight and then turn right at the entrance to the Resort and Marina. Please follow bus signage and do NOT enter the employee lot. You will veer towards the right to enter our bus loading and unloading zones in the two lanes on your left.

  1. Please pull directly down the center of the two lanes on your left (to deter passing cars)
  2. If you are a school bus- please engage your stop sign and lights when letting children off of the bus
  3. Have students remain on the bus until told to unload by an Education Department Staffer.
  4. BUS DRIVER: ONCE ALL STUDENTS ARE OFF OF THE VEHICLE PULL FORWARD TO PARK

There is outdoor seating available in our Vietnam Experience. Lunch needs and plans must be communicated to Tamara Parker. In the event of foul weather, we cannot accommodate self-guided groups.

Each school is allotted 1 non-school chaperone for every 10 students for free. Any chaperones over this number are $17 per person. We encourage pre-paying to maximize your time on property. No cash. Credit cards accepted. Reach out to Tamara Parker 843-881-5936 to make a payment. Note: for structured programs (not self-guided) no more than 2 non-school chaperones per every 10 students is permitted.
