Description
A large and heavy piece of a metal harness from the bomb aboard a Japanese D4Y "Judy" bomber plane. The harness fragment has white, kanji along the crushed side moving away from the coupler.

Context
Referred to by the sailors on board the USS Yorktown (CV-10) as 'Bomb Sunday,' March 18, 1945 saw the only bomb hit incurred by the aircraft carrier during World War II. Three Japanese Yokosuka D4Y "Judy" dive-bombers launched an attack against the Yorktown. Two were shot down before reaching the Yorktown, but the third was able to deliver it's payload and struck the signal bridge. The bomb passed exploded near the ship's hull after passing straight through the first deck. The explosion killed five sailors and wounded 26 more. The harness fragment is purported to come from this bomb.
