The M42, more commonly known as the Duster, is a 40 mm self-propelled anti-aircraft American armored air-defense gun built for the US Army from 1952 to 1960. Dusters operated with a crew of six people and was armed with two 40mm Bofors and a Browning or M60 machine gun. The Dusters were in service until 1988.

Context
Though initially designed for an anti-aircraft role, the M42 Duster was very effective against ground forces in the Vietnam War.
The Duster came to Patriots Point in 2015 and is on loan from the US Army Center for Military History and the South Carolina National Guard.
