Description
World War II era US Naval Aviator wings pin issued to Gerald Hennesy. Pin is a set of spread, feathered wings with a shield and anchor with intertwined rope in the center. Single fastener on the back to attach the pin to a uniform. Originally silver with gold plating, wings have tarnished to a bronzed color.

Context
As a F4U Corsair fighter-bomber pilot in the Pacific, Gerald Hennesy flew almost 100 missions off the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10). He received the Air Medal for downing an enemy aircraft during a rescue mission for one of his fellow pilots.
