Description
The Officer of the Watch's station at Main Engine Central on board the USS Yorktown (CV-10). There is a hand-drawn diagram on the back that shows the uses for various means of communication to and from the engine room.
The diagram on the back of the photo reads:
-Damage Central speaker and talk back.
-21 MC - interspace communication to Bridge, etc.
- Sound powered telephone amplifier used to monitor various phone circuits on selection switch
- Sound powered hand set for use with amplifier
- Ship's telephone, executive cut - in, with right to show when it's ringing.
- "Mike" for ships P.A. system can be used to announce one entire ship.

Context
From the collection of Stephen Fitch, who was part of the inaugural crew and a plankowner of the USS Yorktown (CV-10). Fitch was good friends with quite a few of the pilots aboard the USS Yorktown.
Stephen Fitch was a Lt. Commander in the Engineering Department on the USS Yorktown (CV-10). An artist at heart, Fitch would draw both small cartoons and comics as well as detailed schematics of engine compartments and staterooms. Fitch is also the artist behind the squadron emblems on the flight deck killboards.
