Context
A predecessor to the Navy Seals, the Navy's Underwater Demolition Team aided NASA with the recovery of every Apollo space capsule.
In 1968 the USS Yorktown served as the recovery vessel for NASA's Apollo 8 Mission. The Apollo 8 crew would be the first to leave low earth orbit and the first crew to orbit the moon.
