The Sea King was originally ordered by the US Navy to combat Soviet-era submarines during the Cold War but also performed transport, search and rescue and medevac operations.
The SH-G Sea King was the recovery vehicle for the Apollo 8 capsule retrieval performed by the USS Yorktown (CVS-10) in 1968.
The Sea King arrived at Patriots Point in 1993 and is on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida.
