Title
Type AN-N6 Camera Gun
Description
A black, rectangular metal box with a round, glass 35 mm camera lens protruding from one end. The camera has protruding feet for stabilization on the bottom and a manufacture's label plate bolted to the side. The camera has a hinged compartment for film replacement.
Context
Camera guns like these were used by Photographer's Mates and the Naval Aviation Photographic Unit during World War II to capture images of the US Navy at work. As the cameras were mounted to airplanes and could only be operated when the plane's gun trigger was pressed, they were especially valuable at taking images from the air and for scout work.
