Join Nancy Roosevelt Ireland, the granddaughter of former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, as she talks about her memories of her grandmother. Also to be discussed are Eleanor Roosevelt’s tremendous contributions to the country, particularly in the areas of advancing women’s rights and protecting human rights worldwide.

Mrs. Roosevelt was also a great friend of the military, who was particularly interested in promoting racial equality in the armed forces. She was the ship sponsor of both the USS Yorktown CV-5 and the USS Yorktown CV-10. Even after she christened the USS Yorktown CV-10 on 21 January 1943, she remained interested in the ship and maintained a relationship with the USS Yorktown Association for many years.

The event is sponsored by the USS Yorktown Foundation and the League of Women Voters (an organization with which Mrs. Roosevelt was very much involved during her lifetime). The symposium is FREE and open the public. It will be held in the Smokey Stover Theater onboard the USS Yorktown at 11 a.m. on 16 April 2018.
