The Patriots Point Development Authority Board of Directors voted on January 20 to name the chapel of the USS Yorktown in honor of Reverend Harold Syfrett. A WWII veteran & Yorktown plankowner, Rev. Syfrett served as assistant chaplain on the Yorktown from 1943-1946 and has served as the chaplain of the USS Yorktown Association for the past 30 years.

Many who have visited the USS Yorktown over the past 40 years have had an opportunity to meet Rev. Syfrett and listen to the stories of his service as he has long been a regular visitor to his beloved ship.  In November 2016, on his 93rd birthday, Rev. Syfrett took part in the re-opening of the chapel after it underwent extensive renovations.  In addition to new chapel pews and a higher ceiling, photographs of A portrait of Rev. Syfrett hangs in the chapel that will soon bear his name.

The chapel is located at the start of Tour One on the USS Yorktown.  Available as an event rental space, the chapel recently hosted its first wedding!

Check out photos below of the chapel as it looked when we re-opened the space in November 2016.
