For the second year in a row, the “Fighting Lady” is joining the fight against breast cancer.  In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, lights on the flight deck of the USS YORKTOWN will turn the ship pink every evening throughout the month of October.

Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States and is one of the leading causes of cancer death among women. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international health initiative to raise awareness of the disease and to raise funds to support research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.

“As a part of the greater Charleston family, Patriots Point is proud to support this important initiative, which shines light on a disease that 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1,000 men will develop over the course of their lifetime,” said Executive Director Mac Burdette.  “Although there is no cure for cancer, early detection can improve outcomes.  We’re glad to do our part to help raise awareness.”
